Immanuel Ladies Aid Christmas Luncheon and Gift Exchange

Immanuel Ladies Aid held its annual Christmas luncheon and gift exchange Thursday at the church. The Immanuel Mews Club met Thursday. Gilbert Sunderman and Darrell Phillips were patients at the Municipal Hospital. Members husbands were entertained at a Christmas party at the Mental Health Institute.

Mutual Improvement Club Donates to Children’s Home

The Mutual Improvement Club met in College Springs on December 17 with Mrs George Feder hosting. Members discussed Israel with Mrs Emerson Dugan and sang carols. a $7.75 offering was sent to the Iowa Children’s Home in Des Moines. Charley Duncan shows improvement after knee treatment.

Farewell party for California bound Mrs Berger

NEW MARKET Dec 16 Mrs Floyd J Lowry entertained a group of ladies for a Christmas party. Guest of honor was Mrs Gale Berger who is leaving for California to spend a few weeks with friends and relatives. Also present were Mrs Dana Taylor of Clarinda Mrs Beryl Kelso Mrs Ralph Snodgrass Mrs Edna Moorman and Mrs Daisy Marsell of New Market. Mrs Berger received a gift from the hostess.

Pioneer Woman of Page County Keeps Busy at 87

Mrs Eirie Ann Pritchard, 87, born Aug 11 at the Vardaman farm southeast of Shambaugh, has lived in Page County most of her life. She still feeds her hybrid hens, tends the yard, and maintains her garden, while relying on neighbors for heavy chores. Her late husband David A. Pritchard died in 1951 after 20 years in Kansas, and she remains active in the Ceston Methodist Church and in reading and Bible study despite arthritis.

Christmas decoration shows bus district in candy bricks

Mrs Barbara Pace built a large Christmas display for Clarinda's business district using candy bricks powdered sugar mortar and cookie roofing. The cardboard framed model took over 30 hours to assemble with inspiration from Mrs Dorothy Kent. Most materials were bought locally apart from square gum drops imported for the project.

The AAA Motor Club of Iowa warns December’s dark, wet conditions raise pedestrian dangers. It urges school-age youngsters to cross streets slowly and allow extra braking distance as rain and snow reduce visibility. A safety poster themed Be Extra Alert in Bad Weather appears in local schools, created by Helene Gianatiempo of Northport NY and winning the national contest.

New Market Grade School Plans December Program

New Market grade school schedules its annual program for December 22. Students are dismissed for Christmas vacation December 23 and return January 3. A Monday gym puppet show and declamatory readings were held. The Student Council plans a Christmas party Friday and a January contest is planned.
