August rainfall in Clarinda triples month's average
The Clarinda waterworks weather station reports August rainfall more than three times the 3.63 inch monthly average. After Sunday's rain the total stands at 10.68 inches with 1.77 inches from Thursday and 2.87 inches on Sunday.

Carmichael to Lead Montgomery County ASC Office
George Carmichael former on the farm ag instructor will become manager of the Montgomery ASC office in Red Oak starting Sept 6. He trained for the Agricultural Stabilization program and has served as office manager at Logan for 2½ years. The Carmichaels farmed near Clarina prior to moving to Clarion.

Athletics rally to win American Legion tourney here Saturday
Clarinda hosted the American Legion semi pro tourney with Athletics coming from behind to three wins and capture the title at 3-0. Virgil Briggs closed two wins in relief as Greenfield, Vikes, Nevinville and Stanton competed for second to fourth while prize money totaled about 160 dollars for the top four teams.

Low bids of 88 889 10 were received for resurfacing 22 miles of farm to market roads. A separate accident report notes two youngsters with minor injuries after a collision at 13th and Main Street Friday. John L Webb was fined 10 dollars for failure to yield. The South family and a 1950 Chevrolet pickup were involved. Courthouse to close Labor Day for the holiday.

Pullen Farm Home Burns in Valley Township Blaze
Two farm fires in Page County area destroy a Pullen farm house and barn. Ed Reavis spotted the Pullen blaze near North Grove Church in Valley Township. Villisca fire department saved other buildings but the house and contents were lost. The Pullens were away visiting Missouri, fire discovered about 10:30 pm Friday. The Victoria race track is at the northeast corner of the county. A nearby Scheib farm barn burned Thursday likely from lightning, but no house remains on site.

Virgil Briggs allowed one hit in 5 2/3 innings in relief, hit a grand slam, and drove in five as the Athletics upset the Vikes 12 11 to secure their third win in the semi pro tournament.
