The Clarinda Community School Board heard three junior girls Phyllis Fastenau Jean Jones and Phyllis Jennings discuss starting a girls interscholastic basketball program. The board also reviewed elementary school section allocations changes, proposed land and building dispositions and voting center plans for the September 12 election. A bid from Schulze Baking Co for 20 cents a loaf was accepted for the hot lunch program and the district approved obtaining a driver training dual control car for the next two school years.

Utah man accused of taking billfold
Don Cade 26 of Salt Lake City is held in Page County for theft of a billfold containing 7.08 dollars from the home of Glen Carlson deputy county assessor northwest of Essex. Cade admitted taking the billfold after entering the house when no one answered his knock. He was seen entering the residence and had papers suggesting possible parole from Idaho.

Coin youth injured in car crash Sunday
William Gene Smiley 19 of Coin was seriously hurt in a rural-road crash 50 miles west of Shambaugh Sunday between 4 and 4:30 pm. He suffered chest and head injuries and was reportedly improved Monday at Municipal Hospital. He lost control on a rise, drove off the road, rolled over, and the 1951 Oldsmobile burned. an unidentified motorist pulled him from the wreck as an ambulance was summoned. The cause remains undetermined.
