Picnic honors Larry Davises in Clarinda Park

A Sunday picnic in Clarinda Park honored Mr and Mrs Larry Davis and their son Michael of San Jose California who visited relatives in Clarinda for a month. Attending were Mr and Mrs Jerry Reber of Lincoln Nebr Mr and Mrs Eldon Miller and family of Siam Mrs Elizabeth Mae Hatfield Miss Ella Bix and Mrs Lola Reid. Reid Shields and children of Siam visited briefly in the afternoon.

Sunderman Family Reunion Elects 1955 Committee

Gilbert Sunderman chaired the Sunderman family reunion at Clarinda Park on Tuesday August 17 with 57 members present. A basket dinner followed at noon. The 1955 committee was elected including Gilbert Sunderman, Lavern Sunderman, Merrill Sunderman, Darwin Herzberg, and Paul Richey. the 1955 reunion is set for the third Tuesday in August at the park.

31st Miller Loy Reunion Held Sunday at Clarinda

The 31st Miller Loy reunion was held at the Clarinda city hall basement Sunday August 15 with 33 attendees. New officers named for the coming year include Earl Fishbaugh president Della Shoemaker vice-president Esther Fishbaugh treasurer and Ona Knox secretary. George Shoemaker led the afternoon program with several songs and the 1955 reunion is set for Shenandoah on the third Sunday in August.

Marriage of Jack Arthur and Beverly Bentzinger

Mr and Mrs Read Arthur announce the marriage of their son Jack to Miss Beverly Bentzinger daughter of Rev and Mrs Warren Bentzinger of Cleveland. Jack a Iowa State College graduate and former U S Navy hopeful is linked to escort duty aboard the USS Phillip in the Pacific. Beverly resides with her parents in Cleveland and is undergoing merchandising training at Haley's department store.

Pink and Blue Shower Honors Mrs Srite at Home

Plan for November wedding announced by Mr and Mrs Clarence Whigham. Jean Whigham the future bride, is engaged to Wade Clark son of Mrs Ida E Addieman of Avalon Missouri and WR Clack of Mt Home Idaho. Miss Whigham once worked at Page county rural and is now a statistician for United Jew A services in Kansas City. Clark served in the Navy and previously worked at a local trust and savings bank before enlisting. The couple plans a November ceremony in the Midwest.

Douthit Family Reunion Held Sunday at Park

The annual Douthit reunion gathered Sunday at the park shelterhouse with 59 attendees. A basket dinner followed noon, as members introduced new faces. Mary Douthit of Clarinda was the oldest. Janice Jillson was the youngest. Edna and Perry Douthit families from Lincoln, Nebraska traveled furthest. Fannie Oehler volunteered as secretary for 1955.

Mrs Phoebe Clayton was elected president with LuElla Fuller as secretary and Mrs Blanche Smith as recording secretary at the Hays family reunion held Sunday August 15 at Clarinda park. Sixty five relatives attended a picnic and the next gathering is set for the third Sunday in August at Clarinda park.

McCoy's Farm Dream Sets High Milk Production Record

McCoy's Farm Dream, a registered Guernsey cow owned by Ralph M McCoy of Hepburn Iowa, produced 7743 pounds of milk and 444 pounds of fat. The record equals about 3488 quarts of high quality milk, under the American Guernsey Cattle Club registry. Dream, a junior two year old on test, was milked twice daily for 305 days and is a daughter of Skyline Triumph's Royalist. The record was supervised by Iowa State College of Agriculture.

Shurman Smiths Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Shurman Smith marked their 50th wedding anniversary at home on August 17 with a family dinner. Married August 17, 1904 by Reverend Prince, they resided in Clarinda nearly all their married life. They are parents of nine children, five living and four deceased, with ten of their 30 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren present among a gathering that included several relatives.

CITY AND RURAL AREAS GROWING TOGETHER IN CLARINDA

Clarinda Lions heard rural leader Jacob Stimson explain how nearby communities merged into a single urban rural community. He recalled horse farming, later tractors, and the spread of electricity since 1946, noting farming is now a business with bigger overhead. Bob Ott of Woolworth attended. Page County reports $1,153,446 for seven months at 82.87 percent of its county quota, while Lucas O’Brien and Tama exceed 100 percent. Wayne Earhart aged 58 and former Clarindan resident died in Orla Vista Florida on Wednesday night after years of poor health. Two Page County Women File Divorce Petitions in Court

Two Page county women have filed petitions in Page county district court seeking divorces. Laura C Dunn of Valley township asks divorce from Oren B Dunn and custody of three minor children aged 1, 4 and 6, in a petition filed Saturday. In a petition filed Tuesday, Leona Clark seeks divorce from Marvin Clark and custody of a minor child, an infant.

Defective muffler fines and truck tariff ruling on docket

Robert J Derry fined $2.50 by the State Highway Patrol on August 11 for a defective muffler. Ronald Overman penalized $5 by the State Highway Commission on August 3 for a truck tariff issue.
