Vivian Ann Head Crowned Queen of the Furrow at Page County Fair

An overflow crowd witnessed the Page County Fair Parade of Champions with Vivian Ann Head named Queen of the Furrow. Ros ie Moore earned grand champion 4-H baby beef with a 1 030 pound Aberdeen Angus, with a $25 prize. she will sell the animal at the 4-H auction as she pursues nursing training. Runner up was Vance Whitehill’s Shorthorn. The regional contest will be held in Council Bluffs with the national final in Newton on Sept 15.

Several tents weathered the wind at the fair while Jack Krise risked his safety to shut off a failing electric switch. A broken louvre door from the Home Improvement Co exhibit cost about 125 dollars. A Strong & Bridie driver test nearly caused a panic as the tent shifted. A 1000-pound heifer died after escaping and wandering toward the city sewage plant. The American Cancer Society offered a ten dollar credit for a physical examination as emergency aid units repaired after the storm.

Korean Bonus Act Published in H J Herald Journal

Publication of Towa is set to publish the Korean Bonus Act this Monday as Iowa proceeds toward the November 5 election. The act would create a $26 million fund to pay veterans and eligible beneficiaries for service from June 27 1950 to July 27 1953. Beneficiaries would receive ten dollars per month of service up to five hundred, with twelve fifty per month for foreign service, and full payment for service-connected deaths. A board will oversee administration and applications. If the act passes, it becomes effective. The publication will run three times in this paper before the election, as in all Iowa counties.

Missouri Guardsmen Overnight Guests at Page County Fairgrounds

More than 400 Missouri Guardsmen from Maryville and nearby towns spent Saturday night at the Page County Fairgrounds. They pitched tents by the grandstand after a postponed horse show, forming a temporary camp that filled parking areas near the exhibition spaces.

Steeve's Angus Second in American Futurity Show

Miss Eileen of Mileaway 305 an Abber deen Angus female owned by Mr and Mrs Orie Steeve placed second at the American Aberdeen Angus Futurity in St Louis Missouri. Prospect Farms of London Ontario Canada won first with Miss Eileen a senior heifer calf sired by Mileaway Eileenmere 22. The Futurity drew 350 animals as the national Angus show.

Burial in Dallas for Ike Slack 80

Longtime Taylor County resident Ike Slack 80 died suddenly Friday at his Clarinda home after years of heart trouble. Funeral was held Monday at Walker Funeral Home with burial in Dallas Cemetery. Survivors include his wife and a daughter Mrs Joe Anderson of Shenandoah.

Merna Murphy Wins 4-H Style Revue at Page County Fair

Merna Murphy 16 of Blanchard earns top senior honors in the Page County 4-H Style Revue and will represent Page County at the Iowa State Fair. Runner up Donnett Morrow 15 advances to the St Joseph Interstate Show. Donna Anderson 17 places third among seniors with many junior blue ribbons also awarded.
