Death of Joe Faassen Sunday forces postponement of Berry Seed Co annual stockholders meeting planned for Tuesday. No new date set. Out-of-town stockholders have been notified by telegraph and will attend the funeral.
World War I veterans and their wives or widows in Iowa's 7th District will meet at Clarinda on Sunday August 21 for a quarterly picnic and meeting hosted by County Barracks 1689 and its auxiliary at the American Legion. Officers and state and national officials will explain pension law 86-211 and discuss legislation.
Carl Fredrickson has filed his withdrawal from the November election ballot for the office of Montgomery County treasurer and has resigned the post he held since 1957. He requests release by September 1, per the Red Oak Express. Clarinda lodge notes Nodaway Lodge No 140 AF and AM will hold regular communications on Thursday August 11 at 8 pm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church for Joe Faassen 69 a prominent Clarinda seedman who died Sunday afternoon of a heart attack while visiting Judge Har old E Davidson. He had just marked his 47th wedding anniversary with Hazel Faassen. He was born September 4 1890 in Pella Iowa and moved to Clarinda in 1916. He served as Berry Seed Co manager secretary and later chairman of the board. He was active in Kiwanis Investment Club City Council Hospital Board and several local committees. Interment will be at Clarinda Cemetery Williams-Foster Mortuary in charge.

Taylor County 4 H and FFA will hold a livestock judging contest Sunday at the fairgrounds starting at 2 pm. Beef sheep and swine classes will be judged. Results help select the Taylor County representatives for 4 H judging contests at the State Fair and the Interstate Show in St Joseph.
A sizable limestone quarry drives a major operation with dump trucks loading aggregate. The facility, depicted in a lower photo, sorts aggregates into grades and processes about 2000 tons daily. Rock from Maxwell sisters’ land is used to surface local roads.
Page County Farm Bureau Women sponsor displays and demonstrations in the Farm Bureau tent at the fair from Wednesday to Saturday. Demonstrations include meat cutting, first aid, and outdoor cookery with various speakers. Displays cover agricultural products, civil defense, music, reading, citizenship, and Farm Bureau themes. Ice water and chairs provided. a six‑seat silverware set will be awarded Friday to a tent registrant. Died under own truck: Harry Nelson, 58, of Creston crushed under a dump truck while under the vehicle.
The 4-H demonstration contest for boys starts Wednesday in the Og area with Milt heading the district east of here. He has led six counties as district leader for 12 years and will judge the event with topics including air cleaner servicing hog shade rope halter and fire extinguisher use. A new public address system will help all demonstrators be heard.

Police report notes a Saturday crash at the 11th and Washington intersection at 3 30 pm. Everett H Smith 64 Clarinda was driving east prepared to turn north when rear ended by Gary Larabee 23 also of Clarinda. Both cars a 1950 Buick and a 1955 Plymouth sustained extensive damage with estimates pending.
Taylor County 4-H will hold a crop and weed identification along with hay and grain judging Sunday at 4 pm at the Taylor County fairgrounds. Results will select the 4-H team to represent Taylor County at the State crop judging contest.
Page County home economic projects will be judged by three judges from the southwest, including Marjorie Burch and Mrs Roy Archibald. Foods will be judged by Mrs Archibald assisted by Mrs Robert Nymand. Exhibits cover cakes, jams, jellies, muffins, breads, biscuits, canned produce, meals, and table settings across 50 classes for junior intermediate and senior girls.
Mrs Kamsiah Ibrahim, director of the Federation of Malaya Red Cross Society at Perak, visits Omaha for a month as part of an international leaders conference. She meets Shenandoah friends, attends church events, a 4 H tea, a club women coffee, radio appearance, and tours welfare agencies before heading to New York and Washington. She will return home Sept 6.
Two Clarinda area graduates earned BS degrees at Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville on Thursday. Allen R Herzberg received a BS in secondary education agricultural science with a biology minor. he will teach biology and general science in Wayne City Iowa. Robert White earned a BS in education with a music emphasis. he will teach vocal music in Westside Iowa. Diane Thompson, daughter of Clyde Thompson, is also noted in the cohort.
Clarinda residents report limited home damage from Friday night lightning with no major fires. Kenneth Hunter and Charles Basher homes affected. Glenn Beery range damaged. two poles broken near Winterset. Paul Sutphen and Fred Eno injured mildly after ambulance collision during recovery run. Nodaway River levels fluctuated but no catastrophic impact.
