Drake University to host final pre nursing tests
Des Moines Iowa special Drake university serves as testing hub for prospective nursing students affiliated with Broadlawns General Iowa Methodist and Mercy hospitals in Des Moines. The final pre nursing test of the year will be held August 7 in Harvey Ingham Hall starting at 830 am. Participants earn 18 college credits in their freshman year and may receive 30 additional education credits toward a degree.

For the fourth year handicapped boys and girls from southwest Iowa will be special guests on opening day August 17 at the Iowa Championship Rodeo in Sidney. The event is sponsored by the Clarinda Business and Professional Women's club and Faster Seal with the Easter Seal Society cooperating with the Williams Jobe Gibson American Legion Post. Admission is free for the crippled child and one accompanying adult. reserved seats are available for a clear view of the arena. Four 4-H club members from Taylor County were selected to attend the Iowa State Fair on an all expense paid trip funded by the Taylor County Fair Association and the Iowa State Fair board. State Legion Commander Named At Des Moines Convention
The American Legion in Iowa named Hamm state commander at the Des Moines convention on Wednesday, succeeding Robert H Lounsberry. Hamm, 39, an insurance agent from Glenwood, has a long record of posts and district leadership and previously served as national defense chairman of the Iowa department. He was born in Page county and educated at Sham-baugh and College Springs High School, later working in farming, the Soil Conservation service, and the Des Moines ordinances plant before enlisting in the navy in 1944 and settling back in Glenwood after 1946. He and his wife have two sons, Ronald and Royce.

Gay Township 4-H Boy Shows Grand Champion Beef at Taylor Fair
The Taylor County fair in Bedford last week crowned the grand champion 4-H baby beef as a 9.45 pound Hereford shown by 12 year old Danial Ryan of the Gay Boys 4-H club. Other champions included Robert Lockhart with reserve Angus, Larry Saylor with champion Shorthorn, and Paul Jones with the grand champion market pig. Additional breed champions spanned Yorkshire, Chester White, Poland China, Hampshire, and Holstein classes among 4-H dairy and sheep divisions.
