Guardsmen Headed to Camp Ripley for Two-Week Encampment

PW class of 15 to be graduated Aug 12 at St Johns
Twenty five class members of the PW program graduate on August 12 at St Johns Clarinda with a practical nursing focus. The Aug 12 ceremony marks completion of studies begun last September under coordinator Mrs Louise Flatley and instructor Mrs Ruth Harper. Practical nursing school may be suspended for low applicant count
Insufficient interest threatens to suspend the Clarinda Community College School of Practical Nursing for the coming year. Only six applicants for the sixth 11 month course led to a license exist now, with a minimum of ten needed to continue. If August 8 is not a strong enrollment date, the program will be discontinued for this year and may resume in 1961 if facilities remain.

Six Injured in Auto Crash Near Villisca
Six people were injured when a vehicle crash near Villisca sent Ralph Jr Meng and five others to area hospitals. William Meng, 13, had a broken arm but was improving and expected to be released soon. Donald Lambert, 15, had head and shoulder injuries, in good condition, with earlier fears of eye loss disproved. Others, including David Meng, Ann Frances Meng, Ted Scott, and Carl Garnett, suffered contusions and minor injuries with David Meng needing about two weeks to recover.
