Marine Private Gary J. Mulholland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry D. Mulholland, graduated from eight weeks of recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He will undergo about three weeks of individual combat training, then home leave before reporting to his first assignment. The program emphasizes physical conditioning, survival, marksmanship with M1 rifle and .45 pistol, close order drill, and studies in hygiene, first aid, and Marine traditions.
Airman Richard W. Don Dean of the U S Navy, son of Mr and Mrs Roger Donegan, watched USS Intrepid receive its third aviation safety and accident prevention award amid ceremonies on the carrier’s flight deck in the Gulf of Tonkin off North Vietnam. Vice Admiral John I Hyland presented the 1967 Admiral James A Flatley Award to Captain W J McVey, with Admiral Thomas H Moorer sending a statement from Washington praising the crew’s safety record as a direct reflection of their effort. The Intrepid previously won the award in 1981 and again in 1984.
Ceiba Puerto Rico radioman second class Beltz son of Mr and Mrs James Beltz of 22 Westeead Drive Ni and former Mes Rathesa J Clark of Way Court San Diego is assigned to the Navy Atlantic Fleet Weapons Range near Ceiba PLA He joins the range training crew and will serve with its operation and training team aboard almost every conventional and missile weapons system known to the Navy today.
