Conserving Cedar Rapids painting reshapes its future
The Cedar Rapids Art Center restored Woman With Plants, a 1929 work, after damage from harsh drying and humidity. Conservator Alfred Jakstas reattached paint, thinned varnish, and sealed the pulp board, with framing updated. The piece, bought in 1931 for 325 dollars and now valued at 25000, will hang in the new center with climate control.
