Woman dies in Thunder Bay crash with school bus

A woman died at the scene when her vehicle collided with a school bus on Oliver Road near the 1500 block just before 8 am. No students were initially reported injured, but some were picked up by parents or transported to Eccle Gran Morgan Public School as police and school officials offered support. The crash remains under investigation and Oliver Road was closed mid afternoon.

Stop Sign Upgrades at Sistonen’s Corner Fail to Halt Crashes

An OPP and MTO report detail ongoing crashes at Sistonen’s Corner north of Conmee Township despite a flashing beacon and enlarged stop sign at Highway 102. A Calgary driver faced careless driving charges after a truck ran the stop sign, injuring no major, with routes toward Kakabeka Falls or Shabaqua via Highway 1117.

Senior Dies in Highway 11-17 Collision

A 67-year-old Thunder Bay man died Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 11 17 in Shuniah Township near East and West Loon roads. The pickup collided with two transport trucks. two others were hospitalized for evaluation. Police did not release the victim’s identity or indicate charges and the highway reopened after the investigation.

CMHC reports August housing starts slide 22 percent

CMHC says Canada’s annual pace of housing starts slowed 22 percent in August from July, to 217,405 units. Urban starts fell 24 percent to 199,478, multi unit urban starts dropped 29 percent to 154,290, while single detached urban starts rose 3 percent to 45,188. Rural starts were 17,927. The six month moving average fell 2.9 percent to 248,480.
