Fire unit boosts Fort Frances firefighting training week

A Mobile Live Fire Training Unit visited Fort Frances Aug 22 to Aug 28 at Shevlin Yard drawing blaze battlers from Rainy River district municipalities and First Nations for a series of multi room extrication and interior search drills. The unit, propane fueled and hauled by an 18 wheeler, is one of two in the province meant for northern deployment. Fire chief Dave Robertson said house fires are fewer but burn hotter and spread faster due to more synthetic fuels in modern homes, making modern fires more intense and rapid.
