Northern Road Link project hosts in person open houses

Environmental impact assessments proceed as in person sessions occur in Thunder Bay Geraldton and Timmins. The Northern Road Link would connect the Marten Falls First Nation Community Access Road and the Webequie First Nation Supply Road to the Ring of Fire, forming a 310 kilometre cross region corridor.

Nipigon Derby Spoils Dupuis Wins Big At Festival

Melinda Dupuis won 1000 dollars in the Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival derby with a 19.13 pound salmon and a 15.50 pound northern pike. Albert Brennen followed with a 19.12 pound salmon as the four day event featured runs, tours, concerts, races, games, and a Huck Finn derby for 66 children.

High Fire Risk Areas Remain Near Thunder Bay

Rural areas near Thunder Bay face ongoing fire risk with high danger ratings in Shuniah. Officials warn against daytime burning and campfires until dusk while AFFES notes fewer fires provincewide and a much smaller area burned than 2023. The largest blaze sits 60 km northwest of Sandy Lake First Nation, about 187 square kilometres.

Hymers Fall Fair draws crowds despite stormy start

The Hymers Fall Fair welcomed 3,889 patrons on Sunday and 4,957 on Labour Day Monday, totaling 8,846 attendees for the weekend despite a hail and windstorm that nearly delayed the start. By comparison, 5,863 visited over the two days in 2023, and 8,683 attended the 2022 live event after two years of virtual fairs.
