Oil removal begins on deteriorated Zalinski wreck off British Columbia
The coast guard launches an oil extraction effort at the 1919 Zalinski wreck in Grenville Channel 1,100 kilometers north of Vancouver to prevent an imminent large oil release. About 27,000 litres of oil remain inside the ship as divers prep gear, with 4.9 million dollars funded by the federal government and cooperation from First Nations and wildlife advisers.
