Cost of eating well high in northern First Nations
A Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority report finds northern communities spend a quarter of income on basic foods with a healthy four person diet up to 69 percent more than similar diets in Northwestern Ontario towns. Transportation, single-store market lack of price competition, and food quality raise costs and challenge feeding families well. The authority calls for collaborative, community led actions to improve affordability, sovereignty, and policy support.
