Anti-nuke groups urge Shuniah council on fuel transport
Environmental groups Environment North and We The Nuclear Free North present to Shuniah council this afternoon. They oppose transporting spent nuclear fuel rods through Northwestern Ontario and favor storing fuel near reactors rather than at underground sites near Ignace or in southwestern Ontario. The NWMO plans a location decision later this year with no date set. About 10 First Nations and municipalities have adopted anti transport resolutions this year. The 4 p.m. presentation to Shuniah council is scheduled for today.
