Inmates Evacuated as Thunder Bay Jail Loses Heat
Nearly 200 inmates at the Thunder Bay District Jail are being relocated after a heating system failure. The evacuation, first in the facility’s history, will take about three days with inmates moved to alternate secure facilities in the province. Officials assure backups are operational and no immediate danger to inmates or workers exists. The Thunder Bay Correctional Complex is under construction nearby and slated to open in 2026 to replace the aging facility.
