Canada Hits Back with 25 Percent Tariffs on $29.8B in U S Goods

Canada will impose 25 percent tariffs on 29.8 billion dollars of U S goods in retaliation for Washington's steel and aluminum duties. Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc framed the measures as a counterstrike targeting steel, aluminum, and other products, while Prime Minister-designate Mark Carney pledged support for workers and future talks with President Trump.

Governments and plaintiffs settle hospital abuse class action

A proposed settlement ends a 2018 filed class action alleging verbal physical and sexual abuse of Indigenous patients in 33 federally run Indian Hospitals. The deal provides 150 million for healing language and education plus 235.5 million for history research and preservation and 150 million to extend mental health supports. Compensation ranges from 10 000 to 200 000 based on abuse severity across five levels.

Dryden Eyes Buy Canadian Procurement Policy

Dryden in Northwestern Ontario moves to implement a buy Ontario and buy Canadian approach amid U S Canada trade tensions. CAO Roger Nesbitt says staff will assess origin of goods and adjust processes to mitigate tariff cost impacts with domestic sourcing where feasible.
