Canadians Honor D-Day Fallen Across Normandy and Canada
Historians estimate about 22 000 German soldiers lie buried around Normandy with 4000 to 9000 killed or missing on D-Day. More than 5 000 Canadians rest there including 359 who fell on D-Day. Trudeau Attal and Prince William laid wreaths and spoke with veterans as crowds saluted. In Ottawa a memorial ceremony moved indoors due to rain, while across Canada ceremonies remembered the Allied sacrifice. France’s Macron addressed dignitaries and recalled Canadian acts on Juno Beach and the bravery of Leo Major.
