Modular housing aim to fix Indigenous housing in Canada
Lakehead University researchers led by Ahmed Elshaer develop Ikea like modular homes for Indigenous communities facing extreme weather transport and short building seasons. The project uses wind and climate data with RWDI support to create lightweight easily assembled units with strong thermal insulation and wind resilience. Brown and team pursue weather station reliability and structural optimization under a five year NSERC grant. Brown, a Sturgeon Lake Cree member, earned the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship to advance his PhD work on wind behavior and housing resilience.
