Charities gain extended tax deadline amid post strike
The federal government will extend the charitable donation tax return deadline to the end of February to ease the impact of the four week Canada Post strike. Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc announced the plan as charities reported steep declines in mail donations, with The Salvation Army noting over 50 percent drop in holiday giving. Legislation will be introduced once Parliament resumes. MPs return January 27 amid uncertain confidence for the Liberal minority.

Warm weather and rain edge ski hills in Quebec
Quebec ski hill operators remain hopeful despite warm temperatures and heavy rainfall that could affect holiday skiing. Mont Saint Bruno relies on artificial snow to keep slopes in good shape while Bromont reports strong first week of holiday skiing though some runs may close early. Forecasters expect a brief warm spell followed by a plunge to minus ten degrees by Saturday.
