Carter remembered as a generous former president and ally
Jimmy Carter died at 100 in Plains Georgia after a long life of humanitarian work and diplomacy. The Nobel laureate, veteran and former U.S. president helped Canada avert a nuclear crisis in 1952 and shaped global human rights advocacy through the Carter Center. His wife Rosalynn predeceased him in 2023. The Carters' friendship with Canada persisted across prime ministers and decades, including the Canada–U.S. partnership during the Iran hostage crisis era. A state funeral is set for January 9 in Washington.
