Ontario Provincial Police report a serious collision about 13 kilometres south of Beardmore shut Highway 11 in both directions just before 5 p.m. Thursday. Emergency crews aided the scene as authorities monitor closure length and direct drivers to Ontario 511 for updates.
A 29-year-old pedestrian died after a vehicle struck them on December 20 around 6 30 p m on Second Street East Fort Frances Rainy River OPP and paramedics responded and transported the victim to hospital where staff said the injuries were life threatening and later, the death was confirmed as the investigation continues.
City police arrested seven people on impaired driving charges from Friday to Tuesday. Two 22 year old men and a 32 year old man faced multiple charges including impaired operation and resisting arrest. One driver refused a breath sample and was issued a 90 day licence suspension with vehicle impounded for seven days.
A Carleton University study found elevated carbon dioxide and mould in 27 percent and nearly half of 101 homes across Lac Seul Kasabonika Sandy Lake and Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nations in Northwest Ontario. Endotoxin levels were extremely high, with implications for children's lung function.
