Ontario audits flag no province plan to tackle hospital nurse shortages
Ontario lacks a central plan to prevent emergency department closures due to nurse and doctor shortages. The auditor general notes over 200 unplanned ED closures in 23 hospitals from July 2022 to June 2023 and a high share of ER visits by non urgent patients lacking primary care.
