Premier Ford backs $1.2M training push for Northern Ontario

Premier Doug Ford announced nearly 17 million in Northern Ontario funding through the Skills Development Fund with 644000 for Iron Workers Local 759 to build a Thunder Bay training centre and 580000 for Norcat to expand forestry mining and energy training. Iron Workers leader Adam MacGillivray called the investment huge easing commuting and living costs for students and cited 36 annual apprentices amid broad school outreach and guidance. David Piccini noted the region's critical minerals and manufacturing growth underscore the need for a well trained workforce.

Ontario urged to join New West trade pact

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council of Canada with other groups urge Ontario Premier Doug Ford to join the New West Partnership Trade Agreement. The accord among Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia would create Canada's largest barrier free inter provincial market and a study suggests Ontario could gain up to 4.1 billion dollars in annual growth.

Jobs tougher for some groups says StatCan report

Canada’s July labour force data show the overall jobless rate at 6.4 percent with a modest drop in employment. Youth and recent immigrants face the sharpest declines while wages still rise 5.2 percent. Immigrant youth unemployment hits 22.8 percent, up 8.6 points from a year ago.
