Future of former Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital site in limbo
Thunder Bay firefighters have twice responded to fires at the vacant 1944 Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital, the latest on July 5. The province says the site is not for sale and is undergoing due diligence to identify potential future uses with a circulation process for municipalities and non profits. Local officials urge a decision, but Infrastructure Ontario has not committed to housing or funding, noting no decisions have been made while security patrols continue.
