Caterers strike at Toronto Pearson airport leaves travellers hungry
About 800 airline food service staff at Pearson airport walked off the job after 96 percent rejection of a Gate Gourmet offer. The strike, starting just after midnight, affects Air Canada and WestJet travellers and many flights at Canada’s busiest airport. Union leader Martin Cerqua says workers seek a living wage and parity with peers, noting Pearson staff earn roughly 18 to 20 dollars an hour while Vancouver airport workers earn more.
