The bounty bill passed the senate and was approved by the house on Tuesday. It creates a bounty fund paying five dollars for grown wolves and coyotes, plus five dollars for pups, and one dollar for mountain lions, with a county tax to fund the program and penalties for officials who block the levy.
Nineteen of Montana 24 assessors met in Helena to discuss assessment matters and agree on valuations. President H L Daniels of Park county opened the meeting. J C Sullivan of Chateau county served as secretary. Committees were named on Livestock, Banks and Merchandise, Lumber and Logs, Mines and Mining, Lands, and Legislation with several reporting summaries and others to report by Wednesday.
The Wabash Railroad management prohibits intoxicants by employees before reporting for duty and while on duty. It is described as a far reaching measure with no specified abstinence period.

An old advertisement touts Cascarets as a beauty aid claiming clean blood improves skin. It promises to stir the liver and purge impurities, claiming to cure pimples blotches blackheads and bilious complexions. Available from druggists for 10 25 and 50 cents with satisfaction guaranteed.
A west side committee clerk who spent Sunday in Missoula explained that many clerks are needed so others can have room to move during sessions. Reports indicate the present legislature may surpass the Fourth assembly in clerk count, a feat once deemed unlikely.
The regular teachers examination will be held at the courthouse on Friday and Saturday February 15th and 16th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mrs. F. B. CaenowerTu, County Superintendent.
Tuesday evening in the parlors of the Great Falls Hotel Miss Marie Camus and Chandler Smith united in marriage in a small ceremony attended by close friends. The groom, a Montanan pioneer, is well known. the bride recently moved to Choteau and is expected to bring happiness to the union.

Dr Stearns yesterday performed a surgical operation on Wm Fink at the poor farm after weeks of patient refusal. The right leg was amputated about seven inches below the knee with Commissioners Perkins Foster and C H Drake present. Additional removal of part of the left foot may follow when recovery allows.

A poem labeled dedicated to Wall brother of the Old Boy laments insomnia and torment. The speaker asks why he thrashes in bed, suffers head pain, insomnia, tears, and fevers while family sorrow and a sense of illness dominate, ending with "I've got the grip" attributed to John F. Carson.
The Dawson and Yukon region endured the coldest spell since white settlement. On January 16 the government thermometer at Dawson registered 68 degrees below zero and Forty-Mile reported 78 below. January 1896 saw Bound ary reach 67.9 below, a lesser yet noted record. Seven day average at Dawson stood at 58 below zero, with dense fog blanketing the valley and most business halted.
