Carl Johnson Funeral Beheld at Local Methodist Church
The funeral for Carl Johnson, member of the 12th U.S. Cavalry, was held at the Methodist church last Tuesday with Rev. Vernon E. Hull delivering a moving sermon on life and death. Johnson was killed by lightning at Ft. Bliss, Texas, where his troop is stationed. Remains were taken to Choteau by brother C. L. Johnson of El Paso. Pallbearers included Civil War and Spanish-American War veterans. Mrs. Frank Curtis, visiting Albert Lea, Minnesota, returned to Choteau with Miss Cornelia Sunday for a short stay.

The Milwaukee Choteau branch advances with dirt moving for a new grade across Priest lake. Resident Engineer A W Criss reports rapid progress and expects completion for standard track laying. A steam shovel hauls material, with narrow gauge first then standard gauge. Track extends three miles beyond Fairfield. 15 miles remain to reach the lake grade. Grading west of the Teton river repairs washouts from June and July rains and is slated to finish into Chateau before track layers arrive. Pile driver crew prepares piling for the Teton river bridge, the final bridge on the line.
