Crittenden Wins Final Count in County Election

The official canvas of the November 2 1920 general election shows W J Crittenden of Fairfield defeating E D Forrest of Choteau 1065 to 1061 for the county two year term county commissioner. Republicans sweep the returns with nonpartisan leaguers failing to alter the outcome. Forrest had filled the vacancy left by Flynn’s resignation.

Chester Trescott foreman of the Pioneer Press planned marriage after threats and printed announcements last Saturday. Esther Evelyn Ernst, daughter of H D Ernst, wed at nine o clock Sunday evening at the home of Ent Regan with Rev P Martin officiating. Witnesses were James A Heller and Esther Rieck. The couple fled by No 2 car. Jim Heller bought candy and cigars to calm onlookers awaiting serenade.

Community thanks for minstrel show success

A note from Mrs. A. B. Guthrie chairing the fourth division and Mrs. Dunc McDonald chairing the third division thanks the orchestra and many outside supporters of the Industrial organization for a successful event. Rural district residents are invited to join or renew Red Cross membership by mailing their fees to the Teton County chairman for receipts and buttons.

Farmington Social Notes Mention Visits and Events

Mrs O Lindseth and Mrs Peter Cleve went to Missoula. The Luther League served lunch November 2 to raise funds for a church bell. Families Lindseth and Chalmers hosted gatherings. The Ladies Aid, Ladies Auxiliary, and Norwegian Lutheran church events were noted. Visits from Golder and Harbaugh, and Revered Kvile’s service were also listed.

Farmers-Union Laborers Win Credit In Teton Electors Vote

In Teton county the Farmers-Union Laborers averaged 130 votes for presidential electors in the recent campaign. The canvassing board did not show this tally, but the vote existed and the Farm-Labor ticket earned that credit. They trailed Cox and Roosevelt in comparison.

High School Notes Reflect Busy Start to Year

The first quarter for the basketball season in the new gym has gone well over nine weeks exams ended with few exemptions. Home economics pudding orders must be placed by Wednesday at one dollar per pound. Ella Elliott was absent due to sickness. Girls started gymnastic exercises under Miss Williamson this week. Football season over, boys plan practice next week. Senior dance Friday drew Fairfield visitors but pleased attendees. Students formed an athletic club named the T Club to award letters in basketball and football. Junior English class works on book reviews.

State Measures Stand Unchanged by Added Returns

Helena November 11 Relative standing of the vote on the initiative and referendum measures and the constitutional amendments on November 2 was unchanged on returns from additional counties. The university measures from 463 of 1,482 precincts show 367,558 for and 22,935 against. Five million bond issue shows 38,760 for and 31,453 against.

Returns from 419 precincts record voting on multiple measures with varying margins. Support for state conventions, boxing commission, primary law amendments, and road and irrigation bonds fluctuates against opponents, with notable totals for school fund, boards of equalization, and examiners officials.

Armistice Day Celebration in Choteau

Armistice Day was celebrated in Choteau by the American Legion post and supporters. A football game with Great Falls was canceled due to no team availability. Ex servicemen marched to the courthouse where County Treasurer A B Guthrie spoke, followed by a banquet at Hodgskiss hall and a high school dance into the night.

Navy Victory Medals Ready For Distribution

United States navy victory medals and war service clasps are prepared for distribution to men in the inter mountain district who served in the regular navy from April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918. Undesirable discharges exclude eligibility. Ex servicemen in Utah Idaho Montana and Wyoming may obtain by mailing discharges and war service certificates to the Salt Lake City recruiting station or visiting Navy Recruiting substations in Ogden Utah and various Idaho Montana Wyoming cities.
