In Butte on January 5 a riot of newsboys aided by five I W W disrupted distribution of papers. A miner was nearly beaten unconscious, a carrier had three broken ribs, another suffered a broken nose as clubs were used. Police headed by Chief J Murphy intervened. The boys demanded five papers for five cents, claiming they had been receiving three.
