Mrs Maldwin Drummond formerly Mrs Marshall Field Jr of Chicago has moved to England and is now living abroad.
The third annual old timers gathering drew 100 plus attendees from nearby areas at Woodman hall last Friday. Officers elected for the next year include President James Sulgrove and Secretary Mrs. G A Boutilier. Dancing, supper, and reflections on bygone days followed the election.
The Montanan launches a five week subscription contest offering a Werner piano valued at 350 dollars as top prize. Women in Chateau and nearby areas may nominate themselves or be nominated, with votes earned by new or renewing subscribers and by out-of-paper coupons. The contest finishes March 21, 1914.
A large crowd greeted Supt Martin at First Methodist church on Saturday and Sunday February 7 and 8. The annual conference will meet in Chateau in August with seventy to eighty delegates expected and notable speakers from Methodism. Rev P R McMahon leads the coming Sabbath service February 15 with discussion on The Place and The Importance of the Sunday School in This Community and The Modern Nicodemus. Special music will accompany the evening service and all are welcome.
Local residents travel for business and settle into new homes. Nellie Holcomb leaves for a month in Michigan. Dave Humble visits Chateau. George Frey and son Leonard travel to Great Falls. Miss Hartney arrives from North Dakota to homestead near Dupuyer. Miss Rose Heckman hosts a whist party with Norwegian whist. Della Humble wins first prize and Fred Smith takes gentlemen’s prize.
Naturalization papers filed by Owen Martin a native of Irre residing at Dutton. Declarations to become U S citizens filed by Dominik Banis a native of Russia residing at Collins.
All bills due at the Bextyre hotel have been placed in the hands of Smith and Innes for collection. Parties knowing themselves indebted to me on this account are requested to settle at once.
Sunday evening at the Episcopal Church Rev Haley presented The Hermit's Awakening with parables illustrated on screen. The audience filled the venue signaling strong local interest. Next Sunday February 15 the subject The Parables of Our Lord will be shown with extra seats to accommodate crowds beginning shortly after 8 o'clock.
New and old subscribers may prepay subscriptions under the schedule of rates and vote values and secure free votes as indicated. Clip coupons worth 100 votes which appear in each Montanan issue until further notice.
The Royal theatre in the McDonald block opened Thursday night under Dr. E. J. Crary with two showings. About 250 seats are available in comfortable opera chairs. Precautions include a cafe, wide exits, and fire safety measures. Patrons praise the new venue as a credit to Chateau and it enjoys liberal patronage.
A Toledo News-Bee opinion piece laments the shift of citizen soldiers from playful patriots to brutal enforcers. It argues state militia service has become a weapon for privileged interests, harming workers and their families, with a bleak forecast that nations will not learn war.
