Secretary Lane Visited Montana Irrigation Site
Hon. Franklin K. Lane secretary of the interior with Gov. Sam V. Stewart and others visited the Sun River Irrigation project. At Fairfield about 300 locals favored irrigation, presenting a petition for 15,000 acres. Dutton locals resisted, yelping against irrigation. Lane urged fair study of settlers' needs and predicted broad support for irrigation, suggesting the Fairfield unit should proceed while the Teton slope unit may be abandoned.
