Sixteen New Citizens Admitted by District Court

Last week Judge H. H. Ewing presided as sixteen individuals were admitted as citizens of the United States. The new citizens include Carl Durr and Otto Havsten from Norway and Germany respectively, plus Gustaf Waldemar Goranson from Sweden and Alexander Lemmon from Scotland. Other entrants are John Smith and Gustaf Johnson from Scotland and Sweden respectively, Anton Seid from Austria, Otto Swanson from Sweden, Fred Lincoln and Gilbert Rowland Gay from England, Ingbright Lee from Norway, Solomon Solway from Canada, Axel Lindberg from Sweden, Hendrick Rispens from Holland, Thomas Sebens from the Netherlands, and Likke Glastra from Holland.

Senate Declares State of War With Germany Affected

The Senate passes a resolution formally declaring a state of war with the Imperial German government. Six senators opposed, while others supported the measure after a lengthy debate extending since morning. The vote ends with the chamber adjourned and officials present silent and grave.

Nan Burrell plans to move to Butte this Saturday and juniors praise the seniors for Friday’s dance, with a camp themed stage and supper. Harriette Streeter returns to class, Ruth Daley seeks an oculist in Great Falls, and Jim Whitacre leaves for hospital service. The program featured the Diplomat March and other pieces. A patriotic rally with Major Roote sparked militia volunteers and praise for Company M and Lt. James Smith.

Parents Back $20,000 School Bond for Expansion

At a PTA meeting a resolution passed pledging unanimous support for a $20,000 bond issue to fund six new recitation rooms and remodel the existing schoolhouse ahead of tomorrow's city election. If approved, funds from bonds will finance much needed space as the school remains crowded.

Powell elected mayor in Walier city election

In Walier last Monday Dr D Powell won the mayoral race with 91 votes to 47 for D S Hunter. C W Woodward was chosen alderman in the first ward and W D Emery in the second ward.
