Heavy September Snow Paralyzes County Roads
A historic September snowstorm began Friday and lasted through Monday, bringing 14 to 16 inches of snow on level, with drifts up to four feet. A north wind and melting reduced depth, while many roads across the state were blocked. Sheep and cattle herds faced movement delays, with several ranchers en route noted. Lamb shipments were delayed as shrinkage of four to five pounds was anticipated. Weather records show September precipitation near the top of the century, with frost dates scattered between June and September.
