Lost Drill Bit Delays Willow Creek Oil Well Progress
The Petroleum Exploration Company reports a test well on Willow Creek slowed by the loss of a drill bit just before a storm last Thursday night. Recovery efforts began Tuesday as fishing tools were misplaced about 200 feet above the bit. With the well at about 3400 feet, operations continue slowly to avoid cave-ins while 20 lengths of six inch casing arrive to extend the well to 3800 feet once the hole is cleared.

Youth Bench Warrant Issued For Chase Jr
On Friday September 9 a bench warrant was issued by Judge John J. Greene for Herbert W. Chase Jr to be brought before the court with his parents to show cause why he should not be committed to the State Industrial School at Miles City. The petition cites his incorrigibility and refusal to stay at home as grounds for commitment. Chase, age fifteen, was apprehended in Simms for allegedly stealing a .22 rifle from a store, an act he reportedly hoped would lead to placement in a state institution. The court had considered another chance but now seeks commitment once he is located.

Early Snowstorm Slows Harvest in Teton County
A season’s first sunstorm and heavy snow over the weekend halted threshing and harvest work in Teton county. While irrigation areas may yield well, some dry land crops show profits. An estimated 200000 bushels of wheat are to be received at Fairfield elevators from surrounding farms served by Sun River project. With fair weather returning, threshing could resume by week’s end and little damage to stacked grain is expected.
