Elevators Destruction Exceeds 1953 Fire At Gallatin
Destruction Tuesday surpassed the 1953 Gallatin Valley Milling Co. blaze on the same site. The 1953 structure, built in 1914 with 30 000 bushel capacity, burned with 4 000 bushels stored and nearby 30 tons of explosive nitrates. The latest fire filled the newer elevator to capacity, occurred around 7 am, and produced hotter heat while trees near the city park wilted leaves. Fire crews battled from three sides in both incidents.
