Early harvest in Choteau area sets record pace
Choteau elevator men report about 97 percent of spring and winter wheat harvested, marking one of the earliest seasons. Irrigated lands near Fairfield still finish up, weather permitting. Spring yields around 15 bushels per acre, with notable examples like Emil Depner's 12 acres at 46 bushels. Seeding of winter wheat delayed by moisture shortages and root rot losses, with seeding mainly between now and Sept 20. Weather will largely determine the final outcome.
