The Keetons will store their furniture in Great Falls and a successor at the Choteau hospital has not yet been chosen.
The Days of 49 celebration in Chateau nears as Lions Club directors meet. General chair K E Sturgis released committee assignments with chair names for events including Roulette Chuck a Luck Poker Bingo and more. A new Mouse Game features a live mouse running to color coded holes on a circular board for betting interest.
The Rev C A Anderson of Teton Lutheran parish will conduct Sunday at 3 PM in the Episcopalian church in Chateau to organize an American Lutheran church. All Lutherans and unaffiliated parishioners are invited to participate. charter membership awaits those present. Reverend Anderson, pastor of St Pauls in Fairfield and connected with the Dutton and Farmington churches, aims to build a new congregation in Chateau.
James Levi Collins 79, longtime Teton County sheriff, died at Maynard hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot after a period of ill health. Born 1860 in Missouri, he moved to Montana, held public office from 1922 to 1932, and is survived by three children J R Buss Collins Frank Collins and Harry Collins. Funeral plans pending sons arrival. body at Banks Funeral Home.
Enrollment at Teton County High School stood at 189 this morning with four more students expected to enroll soon, pushing total enrollment above 190. Freshmen number 52, sophomores 53, juniors 42, seniors 41, and one post graduate student.
The sixth annual 4 H fair at Chateau High School on Friday September 1 drew strong attendance. Judges Miss Pauline Bunting and Dan Thurber presided over exhibits. 15 clubs entered the parade with Busy Beavers of Chateau winning first, Diamond Valley second, and Snazzy Farmers power third. The dress revue featured 26 girls in blue red and white ribbons. Winners of travel trophies and demonstrations from Power Diamond Valley Collins and Bole were announced, with Lions club tickets for matinee and pool. A county baseball final saw Diamond Valley defeat Fairfield nine to five, marking their third straight county title.
Rev. E. J. McGowan, assistant pastor at St. Luke’s Chateau for two years, has been transferred to St. Patrick’s, the largest parish in Butte. He departed for his new duties after a farewell party at the rectory where parishioners presented a purse. Rev. J. F. Schulte praised his oratorical skill and presence. Rev. Francis J. Mullen, formerly assistant pastor in Butte, will replace him and celebrate Mass in Chateau and Bynum this Sunday.
Richard Trescott former Chateau resident died at his sister and mother home in Clarkston Washington on Monday morning September 4 at about 47 years of age. He was born in Newton Iowa and after Montana schooling and World War I service worked in newspapers in Chateau Conrad and Bozeman. He is survived by his mother sister Mrs Guy Jamison and brother Chester of Bozeman. Funeral details were not available.
A well-off New York couple touring Montana said they had never heard of Glacier Park and bypassed Yellowstone as not worth seeing. A local resident gave a sermon on the beauty of the two places, convincing them to tour both parks.
