Protein Feed Shortage Hits Montana Livestock Growers
Montana Feed Advisory committee in Helena warns farmers that protein feeds are tight with late summer and fall likely to see continued shortages. Crow oil seeds including cottonseed and soybeans are dwindling as grain supply rises but vegetable protein falls. Soybean oil meal faces a crisis this month into September with mills closing or slowing. Government soybean crop estimates are over optimistic, cottonseed meal will not rise much, lindseed meal is scarce, and lindseed meal production stands at 55 percent of last year. Foreign competition further tightens supplies.
