Beautiful Roses for Montanans
Montana gardeners should winterize roses now with severe fall pruning. Cut hybrid teas to 3-4 inches and hybrid perpetuals to 6 inches, then cover soil and mulch with 12 inches of straw or vines. Water deeply, let ground freeze, then protect beds until April 15. Climbing roses lay flat and cover. Next summer blooms will reward care.

Grain Laboratories Close for Season State gridiron?
By order of A H Stafford commissioner of agriculture state protein testing laboratories at Conrad Havre Glasgow and Glendive will close Nov 1 and remain closed until the 1930 wheat crop is ready for market. The action follows a need for economy in the grain division which must operate within fees. The season was discouraging due to limited revenue a short crop and low protein premiums reducing demand. The Wilhoit Billings lab has been discontinued and Bliss Lewistown closed temporarily.
