Washington reports that administration fiscal officers urge adoption of a constitutional amendment to end tax exempt securities. They say the issue is central to national tax policy and industry. The administration plans to push legislation at the upcoming short session with Harding likely to back the measures in his December message.
Officials warn tax free securities impede federal and state revenue and slow growth by raising interest costs. Proposals include ending non taxable securities and suggesting modest tax law changes to Congress in Secretary Mellon’s forthcoming annual report.
