Teton high school Bulldogs defeated Valier 42 to 0 at Valier on Saturday September 27. Strong late rally in the fourth quarter plus solid defense and notable runs by Walter Mozer and Morgan helped secure the win. The team remains focused on an upcoming trip to Lewistown to avenge last year’s defeat.
Last Sunday evening about 20 young people met at the Methodist church for a social fellowship hour and a league organization meeting. Officers elected for the ensuing year include President Erma Young First Vice President Harriet Holmes Second Vice President Emily McCullough Third Vice President Marybelle Peterson Fourth Vice President Kenneth Harmon Secretary Treasurer Betty Webb Pianist Geraldine Moulton.
Word arrives that Johnny Peterson Joel Edwards Don ald Davis Bob Petri and Ellsworth Strand, all Teton County High School graduates now at Montana State College Bozeman, have been pledged to Pi Kappa Alpha. They were pledged Tuesday night.
The 1930 pea crop in Teton county brought 25,248.86 dollars in cash to 52 farmers on 1215 acres with an average 13 bushels per acre. Alaska 32.4 bu ac and Perfection 33 bu ac led yields. Clark son notes peas netted about 10,000 more per acre than wheat would have.
Mrs. C. B. Meyer and husband relocate from Chateau to Great Falls. Meyer ran a car sales business while Mrs. Meyer gained fame as a fiction writer with MacFadden publications. Her stories earned $1,000 first prize, $500 for a single tale, and $880 for a serialized "Tides of Passion" in Dream World.
The physician E B Maynard says George Magee is in a quite critical condition. It was feared he would not survive the night. He has suffered heart trouble and was treated at Maynard hospital before returning home last week. His serious illness is mainly due to pneumonia contracted recently.
Eddie Core of Chateau Country Club claimed the 1930 season title after a 38th hole victory over 1929 champ C. D. McDonald. Fred Barribal won the second flight and captured the resident handicap prize, while H. W. Bateman and Jimmie Broderick won first flight and runner-up honors respectively.
Teton County Teachers Association holds a Saturday Oct. 11 business meeting at the grade school in Chateau. County superintendent arranges the agenda and officers will be elected and delegates chosen for the Delegate Assembly.
Friends in the city were informed of the marriage of William Edward Hall youngest son of Mrs Vernon Hall. The wedding took place September 17 in Salem Oregon with bride Susan Rebekah Chadwick. Hall's father formerly served as pastor of the local Methodist church and died two years ago.
County Nurse Henrietta Crockett under state plan aims to raise diphtheria awareness in the county with a no diphtheria by 1931 slogan. She mails letters to parents outlining a toxin antitoxin campaign for children six months to nine years, three doses weekly, at 1.00 if done by Health Officer H W Bateman.
W F Lockhart of the Lewis and Clark national forest led a survey in the Sun River area and beyond with representatives from the Isaac Walton league and federal agencies. He reported ranges on the forest are unusually short due to drought, noted elk damage on some areas, and explained winter range conditions will shape grazing adjustments.
Chateau Woman's club hears reports on the recent State Federation of Woman's Clubs meeting. Mrs Otis Mellon discusses the art focus while Mrs M K Luther reviews general convention activities. County Superintendent Anna E Stafford covers the 13th and 14th amendments. Next meeting set for Oct 14 with Mrs R F Baillie hosting.
Mrs Bertha Kropp Depner wife of Gustav Depner a well known Farmington farmer died suddenly last Thursday around 5 PM of heart failure. Survived by husband six sons and ten grandchildren with four daughters deceased in infancy. Funeral conducted by Rev E R Kaemmer at the Methodist church with burial in Chateau cemetery.
Information on the Bynum structure test well between Bynum and Pendroy is scarce. The well was reportedly completed last Saturday night with a small oil showing before it was capped. A site visit by Harry Adams, Henry Robison, and R F Baillie found the well abandoned, with oil evidence noted and geologist E B Emrick unavailable. The test well, drilled by Lon Crumley for Continental Development and Midwest, sits on the Dave Scott homestead.
Mr and Mrs H B Swanson left on Tuesday for the Bitter Root valley to visit relatives and friends and transact business during the stay.
The county finalizes its 1930 general election electors at 2,442, up 172 from the July primary but 98 below the 2,540 registered for the 1928 general election. Males total 1,507 and females 935, a gap of about 600. The report notes presidential years bring the highest elector counts and provides year-by-year gender splits and county totals.
A Teton county high school alumni team defeated the Bulldogs 2 to 0 in a midweek game decided by a California style two point gain after a 0-0 four quarter tie. Alumni and Maroon Bulldogs showcased heavies and speed, with the grads scoring on a 10 yard gain through alternating plays while preventing passes. Coach Art Graber praised the alumni defense as Fergus county opponents loom Saturday. Lineup included Obert Dale Frank Gordon Burt Wells Giles Trescott Jim Looney John Mozer Harry Bleecker Tony Mozer Charley Cohoe Walter Cohoe Spud Moore and Chas Davis.
