Oil Lease Deals and Drilling Plans Tie to Montana War Demand

The text outlines oil lease assignments from George Coffey to Shell Oil covering about 5,000 acres near M. Wiles west of Chateau, with Union Oil of California set to drill East Willow Creek under a farm-out. Shell had conducted a 1937 survey, followed by earlier Willow surveys, and Coffey appears involved on Shell’s side as a lessee. The Montana field context also notes Galian Oil’s acquisition of the Cut Bank field and Glacier Production refining, part of a broader wartime expansion to boost crude supply.
