Grizzly Attack Ends in Death Near Choteau
Sam Elford of Choteau survived a grizzly encounter last week near Headquarters Creek while collecting an elk. The bear charged at 46 feet after Elford’s first shot, then moved in despite a second hit. Five bullets felled the 652 pound animal, which measured 9 by 15 inches on the skull and yielded a possible link to a prior incident. Ray Gibler brought out the bear for weighing.
