Sun River Elk Herd Not In Danger Says Supervisor Myrick

FE H Myrick supervisor of the Lewis and Clark Forest says Sun River elk herd is not in danger from hunting. After a spring survey with State Game Warden Robert H Hill he estimates total elk killed this season under 300 and the herd could lose 500 annually without risk. He counted 501 elk on one stretch and cites at least 1500 in the area. Winter feed is scarce with deep snow and stripped bushes, suggesting some elk would have died of hunger without bullets.
