Town Doctor: A Lesson In Community Progress From Road Work
A 1929 Town Doctor column recalls Palos Hills Illinois roadwork where a heavy truck sinks in mud and is freed by a coordinated pull of all trucks. The piece uses the incident to urge towns to unite, hitch together, and move forward as one community.

Relative of Local Men in Interview On Farm Relief
The Minneapolis Journal on May 5 features George Hirshberg of Minneapolis formerly of Conrad Montana. He is related to Arthur and E J Hirshberg and Julius Hirshberg of Chateau. He argues farm relief laws won’t quickly fix conditions and farmers will better cure ills themselves. He ran farms and stores in Montana for 30 years and owns a 1000 acre ranch in a rich northwest farming region near the Pondera oil field. He notes Montana droughts grasshoppers bank failures and crop failures tested farmers who persisted, diversifying as remedy. He cites turkeys and chickens as growing MT farm dependables with agents teaching low cost diversification. He travels often and says Montana is not coming back it is already back.
