Rain and Snow Bring Moisture to Montana Farms
As of May, over 1.5 inches of moisture were recorded at Chateau Weather Station after April's drought. A 0.67 inch shower hit Chateau Airport Saturday night into Sunday, with farmers reporting about an inch. Moisture helps crops but reserves remain low, irrigation water is scarce, and spring germination suffered in drier areas. Nearly 5 percent of winter wheat is in the boat stage, with southern counties most advanced. Stockwater shortages persist and about 40 percent of livestock are on summer ranges, with supplemental feed for cattle and sheep still common.

Voters in Chateau Aga wam Farmington Bynum and Pendrey cast ballots Saturday May 21 from noon to 8 pm to approve a 3.9 mill levy raising 31350 for Chateau High School maintenance and operation while Lin coln Farmington Bynum Pendrey and Choteau High School host polls. The grade school levy requests 22.9 mills to raise 98750 for elementary maintenance and operation, compared with last year’s 22.18 mills for 97234.

Legion Ladies To Sell Poppies This Saturday
May proclaimed National Poppy Month and May 21 as Poppy Day in Chateau and vicinity. American Legion Auxiliary members will distribute red crepe paper poppies in memory of war dead and to aid needy veterans and their families. The flowers are made by hospitalized veterans in convalescent workshops and provide financial aid and therapy.

Public Service Commission Approves Area Bus Route
The Montana Public Service Commission authorized Jim Von Gunten of Great Falls to restart the Red River Valley Stage bus service serving Chateau Fairfield Dupuyer Waller Browning and East Glacier earlier than planned. He aims for two daily trips in season and one daily in off season with local support from Cho teau Browning Fairfield and other towns plus bank underwriting for an 8300 bus and 1800 yearly insurance.

Forty two participate in Saturday March of Dimes Walk-a-Thon
Forty two people joined the Chateau Jaycees sponsored March of Dimes Walk-a-Thon led by chairman Steve Larson. The group split into 32 youths and 12 adults with 12 walkers to Augusta and 32 on a 10 mile route. Participants listed include Reynolds Hoye Rambo Barrett Anderson and many others.
