Death of Joseph Sullivan Breaks Link With Old West
Joe Sullivan, Fort Benton harness maker and famed saddler, died at a Fort Benton hospital after a brief illness. He built durable saddles for Montanan cowmen for over 60 years, owned a large shop opposite the Fort Benton bridge, and helped launch Sullivan Goss in 1881 before moving to the Missouri head of navigation. His legacy includes long-running saddlery and a museum-like business, with the 1886 87 winter freezing of his own legs a notable personal hardship.

You Can’t Get Anywhere By Pan A Horse
A garbled note mentions Candidate Thomas E Wey and a phrase about a horse tied to a hitching post, suggesting a figurative critique of effort and a political reference. No clear event or outcome is presented.
