Meat Boycott Was a Failure, Say Montana Farm Leaders
Montana farm organizations met in Helena and concluded the early April meat boycott failed to impact markets. They warned Congress may move to eliminate foreign meat quotas, noted hog outlets closed, and described how Montana hog producers shipped to Japan and West Coast markets for parity. The group urged public education on meat prices and inflation while livestock officials reported 60 percent of sheep producers in 19 counties left the business in 12 years due to predators and other pressures.
